Hi, I’m Sandra!
I’m from the beautiful Azores Islands, right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Over the years, I’ve lived in different countries — including six years on humanitarian missions in Haiti and two years in New York completing a Master’s in Education. These experiences showed me how challenging (and rewarding!) it can be to adapt to a new place, both personally and professionally. I know exactly what it feels like to want to connect, to be understood, and to express yourself naturally in another language.
When I arrived in Haiti, I had to learn Haitian Creole to keep my job. In just three months, I became fluent — and to this day, it remains one of my favorite languages to speak. I also speak Spanish, French, and English, and I’m currently learning German. Staying in the position of a learner helps me remain fresh, creative, and empathetic with my students. It reminds me what it’s like to struggle, to practice consistently, and to celebrate every small victory.
That’s why I created PLANET PORTUGUESE: to help others go through this journey with confidence, joy, and real support.
With more than 27 years of teaching experience, I’ve learned that no two students are alike. Each person has their own goals, pace, and interests — and my mission is to design lessons that fit YOU. Some students prefer a more traditional approach, while others love when I bring music, poetry, or cultural insights into class. My teaching is flexible, creative, and always tailored to your needs.
For me, teaching goes far beyond grammar and vocabulary. It’s about connection, culture, and giving you the tools to feel truly at home in Portuguese — whether for work, study, or life abroad.
